Bookbinding Boot Camp, July 20-24
Monday - Friday, 10 AM to 4 PM
July 20th - 24th
$250 + $50 materials fee
Do you love hand bound journals? Have you ever wanted to learn how to bind your own book? Bookbinding Bootcamp is an exciting 5-day course where students learn how to create a series of hand bound journals. During this course, students will learn about proper binding techniques, wise tool choices, how to select appropriate materials and the history of the bindings. The class will begin with boxmaking. We will create a medium sized archival box that will be large enough to house all of books created throughout the week. We will then learn a series of bindings that will include the Coptic binding (4th century), the historic longstitch (14th century), the longstitch binding with decorative wrapper (mid-20th century), and a series of cross structure variations (mid-20th century). Students will have the chance to create one or two books of each type. All materials and tools will be provided. No previous bookbinding experience is necessary. 8 spots available.
